Kenner’s series of free concerts on Friday nights

May 14, 2009

“Music in the Park” – resumes Friday night, May 15, with the appearance of Contraflow, that popular group of in-your-face rockers found all over the area at festivals, bars and concerts.

K
enner’s Department of Community Services has scheduled four free concerts on successive Friday nights. Music is for the whole family. Good food, drinks, arts and crafts will be available from local vendors. And it all takes place in Rivertown’s beautiful Heritage Park on Williams Boulevard near the Mississippi River.

Bag of Donuts will appear on May 22. Chee Weez is scheduled to appear May 29 and the ever-popular Top Cats are scheduled for June 5. This year’s concerts were made possible by a grant from the office of Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu who oversees the state Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism
The bands will all perform on the back porch stage of the Kenner Produce Co. warehouse on the park grounds, nestled among colorful early 20th Century buildings like a gas station, blacksmith shop, hardware store and a stable. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs to 9:30 p.m.

Contraflow is a fairly new cover band on the New Orleans scene specializing mostly in 70’s and 80’s arena rock. Their music is influenced by bands such as Queensryche, Boston, Heart, Journey, Kansas, Led Zeppelin, Zebra, and anything to do with rock. The band is made up of six talented musicians, Melissa McGregor on lead vocals, Joey Pitcher on lead guitar and vocals, Chaz Robert on bass guitar, Scotty McGregor on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals, R.L. Marix on drums and vocals, and Chet Delatte on keyboards and guitar

Women's Quotations

I just love the fact that a man possesses something that a woman can never understand because we don't have the experiences of it and that a woman possesses something that the man doesn't understand because only she possesses it.
